makeshift

wow- I was reading the newspaper this morning, and there was an article about this girl from Vancouver who decided that for one year she would wear only things that she made herself- pants, shirts, sweaters, shoes, hats, sunglasses, coats, underwear...... she had a blog(of course) for every day to show what she was wearing. I went to the blog after reading the article and her stuff is cool!! i can't believe she made the shoes....and was able to whip something up when she needed it. Its interesting to look at the blog now that she's done the project because you can read the after-thoughts and what she discovered through having to make everything herself. She concluded that it was a waste of time and energy since there are people specialized in the creation of particular things - ie. shoes- and therefore they should be the ones making the shoes instead of someone who has to put a lot of time and energy into learning how, sourcing the materials, trying different techniques, etc...
very interesting I must say....
here are some of my favourite outfits of hers and check out her blog makeshift

a new obsession

New York Times Fashion section- great articles and videos! I stumbled upon the video section today and there is a collection of a large variety of videos (not just fashion) with reviews on runway shows, fashion week, talk about trends, fashion news...etc.

This video -Ruth La Ferla on Fall's Best Looks which I was unable to embed is great- the narration is hilarious, unintentionally- but it almost sounds like a dubbed over youtube video with some of the phrases she uses, but its also a very articulate description of the direction of fashion this fall...

"in any case, did i mention the ribbon and fur trim on the fishermen sweater at Dior?"

This video I was able to embed is from Fashion Week 2010. I also find a lot of these types of videos and complete runway shows through itunes podcasts....my favourites are style videos, style studio, fashion network and fashion television daily podcast.

Also check out On the Street with Bill Cunningham, I particularly liked his overview of men's style
in Standouts.

i could walk in the garden forever

I just love wildflower bouquets! Mine was acquired from a midnight conquest in the community garden down the street. We inconspicuously crept through in the moonlight- following winding paths through thick foliage and passing through tiny wooden gates...snatching lavender and rosemary... plundering daisies, peonies and dahlias...exploding at my fingertips! and how it freshens my apartment with its smell and life! Thank you gardeners for growing these exquisite flowers.

Up Came The Sun

I was reading my book last night.....which is The Autobiography of Henry VIII and I read this line "Up came the sun. The countryside about us was fresh." and got an instant feeling- filled with smells and visuals - of dew on the grass and the sun just coming up on a summer morning and birds chirping and everything quiet but slowly waking up, everything green. I just found it interesting how a few words stuck together can create such a powerful image. Is that the trick to good writing? i don't know...

Anyway- its the biggest book i've ever attempted to read and though it is taking me months to read it i am really enjoying it. i love books!

Internet Radio

There is a whole world of amazing (and not so amazing) radio stations out there and this may be common knowledge to most people but I have just discovered that itunes has

which gives you access to hundreds of radio stations from all over the worl
d! Its a little hard to find what you're looking for as they are categorized and sometimes categories you think certain radio stations would fall under are not the case...I have clicked through a few of them and my favourites are

KEXP Live-Seattle's radio station found in the Eclectic Category
PopTron from SomaFM- found in the Alternative Rock Category
The Ipop Cafe-Alternative Rock
CBC Radio 3- Alternative Rock

blog blog blog!

For all of you out there addicted to certain blogs as I am there is a great way to organize all of the blogs you can't get enough of every day. Instead of bookmarking every single one you can create an account at BlogLovin (where you can also easily search for new blogs that you haven't even discovered yet!) and make a list of all the blogs you currently view with categories.

This is my list so far...

What are your favourite blogs??

Nice to see you, to see you, nice. Aggy

I love this model. She has such a great look and great personal style. Every time I pass a picture of her in a magazine I am drawn to it. She's always wearing some great outfit and looks edgy but pretty at the same time. Her style is sort of punk-rock but fun and quirky with big patterns and interesting fabrics and graphics.

Taken from an interview with her on FashionIndie "The model of the moment, Agyness Deyn, is talking me through her outfit. “I’m wearing men’s lace-up boots from a secondhand shop in New York, white punk pants from Trash and Vaudeville, a Clash T-shirt, a vintage spotty shirt, a man’s cardigan with an old brooch, a coat from a brand calledBuckler, and a leather cap I got in Tokyo,” she says in her broad Coronation Street accent. It’s a typical Agyness ensemble – “Proper mad,” as she might say – made up of random, inexpensive bits thrown together on the spur of the moment. She should look like a walking jumble sale, but instead she looks like the fifth Beatle."

I like this: "Deyn is only just getting used to signing autographs. “I never know what to write. I always say, ‘Nice to see you, to see you, nice. Aggy.’ Then I put a love heart.”"
