Rachel Weisz

To continue with my Saturday Style Icon feature, this week I wanted to put Rachel Weisz in the spotlight. She first caught my eye in an issue of Vogue in 2008. She was the feature story and I remember loving the photo shoot with her and the article about her trendy little neighbourhood. You can check out the article here

oh yes! i just found this video about the shoot and feature! cool!

As I started watching out for her I noticed what great style she has and she's been in some really great movies! like Brothers Bloom for instance...it just came on video a few months ago and its so quirky and odd. I just love her in it!

And so...some of my favourite looks of hers...

I Heart The Knife

Colouring of Pigeons by Rabid Records

This new song, Colouring of Pigeons is part of an Opera that they are putting out in March! I think its amazing! So many layers of greatness and such a complex work. This is just one song out of it. The entire opera has just been posted on pitchfork here. I haven't yet listened but plan to while I do some work today

While I'm raving about The Knife I might as well highlight some of my favourites that caught my attention. Of course there's the now popular Heartbeats which I first heard accidentally by adding it to my mp3 player (yes Ipods had not even come out yet, or if they had were unattainable in how expensive they were) because my roomate Bre had received it from her friend in Scotland and it wound up on my computer. I heard it one day when my player was on shuffle and couldn't get enough for it for that entire summer and have been loving it ever since. almost four years later. I usually have a way shorter attention span for songs and if I overplay them I start to hate them, but not this one. The video is radical too...

This is my favourite video by The Knife....Marble House made by stop motion animation in the style that Fantastic Mr. Fox was made. So intricate and detailed!

And this song is remixed with Ratatat and I think its awesome as well...We Share Our Mother's Health. Someone posted it on youtube to this old movie "Susie The Little Blue Coupe" in the same animation style as "A Brave Little Toaster"...so cute! not sure it goes with the song, but its charming anyhow.

and finally....my favourite based on the pure weirdness of it...Pass This On. A good song too, I love the steel drums kind of gives it a Caribbean feel

So...Which one is your favourite??

Wallpaper!

I've been noticing some really awesome wallpaper on some design blogs I've been perusing lately. I would just love to buy one of these bold prints and plaster a wall or a section of wall. or I really like the idea of finding an old cabinet and painting it, taking the doors off and adding a really spectacular wallpaper in the back and then using it as shelving........one day....
anyway, here are my favourites! and a song to listen to as you're deciding on your favourite!

Love Zooey

I was just thinking about what great style Zooey Deschanel aways has and started finding a collection of great outfits I thought I would share. She's just so lovely. I think I'm going to start posting a style icon every saturday to have some regularity in my blog posts.

so..... For Saturday January 23rd Zooey Deschanel!

I am subscribed to the style.com podcast and saw this video quite a while ago. This is when I first became interested in her style.

She also has a lovely voice and gets to sing with M.Ward who is dreamy...

My Journey Westward...

On January 8th after a major melt down (packing did not go as well as planned...) I got into my VERY full car ready to drive 973kms by myself as my driving companion acquired the stomach flu and could not join me...

So since there was only myself to enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery I thought I would document it in a photo journal and post it on my blog! so here we go! I left around noon and it was a bright sunny day...the temperature had finally gotten warmer after a cold snap in Calgary. So this is on the way to Banff just approaching the mountains...

Mount Yamnuska...brought back memories of the time my family hiked it a few years ago! wow...what a mountain....

I'm going to stop documenting here because every time I add a photo it goes to the very top of the page and its incredible hard to get it down to the bottom because i can't drag it and have the screen move down. its so frustrating!! If anyone knows how to better upload and arrange photos please let me know!
